Set in the Civil War and Reconstruction Era, the book is about Scarlett O’Hara’s coming of age. Initially she wanted to marry Ashley Wilkes but he was engaged to her cousin. She decided to marry the girl’s brother to spite Wilkes, but she was widowed soon after.

This is the third book of the Debauches Series. It tells how the notorious bad boy 3rd Marquess of Dain, Sebastian Ballister, fell in love with Jessica Trent. Jessica was trying to spare her brother from the influences of the Marquess.

Assassin’s Apprentice (Farseer Trilogy) by Robin Hobb

Keppet, later known as FitzChivalry, is training to become an assassin. He is the bastard son of Chivalry and was sent to live at Buckkeep Castle.
